It sounds so wrong and yet it is real. Dwarf boxing, an ever growing more popular sport that has gripped the internet, with Pay Per View matches and massive YouTube following.
Dwarf boxing, also known as midget boxing, is a controversial form of entertainment, some say exploitative, in which people with dwarfism are pitted against each other in boxing matches. Its fans say it is a valid category of boxing based on the competitors height, and to ban it would be discriminatory. Critics says it is demeaning to individuals with dwarfism, as it often plays on stereotypes and reinforces harmful attitudes toward people with disabilities.
The question that needs to be addressed is: is dwarf boxing a category of the sport, which already is divided weight categories, or some kind of vaudeville show?
The practice of dwarf boxing has been widely criticized by disability rights advocates, who argue that it is degrading and disrespectful. In addition to the physical risks of boxing, such as brain damage, there is concern that the shows reinforces prejudical stereotypes and contributes to the marginalisation of people with disabilities.
Dwarf boxing has its own star – Likkleman, born Aiden Henry, a three foot powerhouse from Coventry, England, who combines the brute strength of Mike Tyson, the artistry of Ali, the moves of Nasseen with showmanship and charisma. Likkleman found fame in prison for a string of burglaries and became an Instagram star with Famous’n’Dangerous. Once out of jail, he teamed up with a promoter who moved him into the boxing world of secret location fights.
Likkleman was bullied as a child and felt abandoned by his parents. He never learned to read or write but developed the skill of making people laugh. His posts on instagram inside prison drew a wide following. Now he draws a boxing crowd as the main event. He also has a side gig selling energy drinks. He says the sport has allowed him to realise personal success which would have otherwise be denied him.
Dwarf Boxing is brutal and still has elements of the freak shows that championed the sport. Mixed Martial Arts has already embraced the Dwarf fighting community

In Thailand Muay Thai boxing competitions, dwarf competitors are not seen as freaks or entertainment but real sports. The World Dwarf Games are the largest international sporting event held in Germany exclusively for athletes with dwarfism. Its goal is to attract athletes with dwarfism from around the world to participate in sports that include basketball, soccer, track and field, volleyball, swimming, table tennis, badminton, floor hockey, boccia, archery, kurling, powerlifting and marksmanship.
The concept of Dwarf sports is seen by some as exploitative. When the Extreme Dwarfanators Wrestling show was touring the UK three venues have pulled out in the wake of criticism.
The Restricted Growth Association (RGA) , which promotes equal opportunites for people with dwarfism, compared the event to a “freak show”.
Several organizations have spoken out against dwarf boxing, including the Little People of America (LPA), a nonprofit organization that advocates for the rights of people with dwarfism. The LPA has called for an end to dwarf boxing and other forms of entertainment that exploit people with disabilities.
Aiden Henry, aka Likkleman, is reputed to have earned 1.5 million from his career in dwarf boxing. For a 3 foot tall man, unable to read or write, in and out of jail, the sport has served him well.
